Hartford Stage Cancels the Sunday Evening’s
March 3rd 7:30 pm Performance of Tea at Five

Please Note:  The Sunday matinee on March 3 at 2:30 pm will proceed as scheduled

February 27, 2002/Hartford, CT…Hartford Stage announced today that Sunday evening’s 7:30 performance of Tea at Five featuring Kate Mulgrew has been cancelled.  After executing the initial eight-performance week, Ms. Mulgrew developed inflammation of the vocal cords.  Due to the extraordinary vocal demands of a one-person play in general and this role in particular, Hartford Stage and Ms. Mulgrew’s doctors have agreed to a reduced performance schedule to enable the run to continue while avoiding future vocal difficulties.  The theatre will be directly contacting all ticket holders to Sunday evening’s performance with rescheduling or refund arrangements.  Anyone who has a ticket to this performance is, however, encouraged to call the Hartford Stage box office at (860) 527-5151 if they have not already been contacted.  Hartford Stage will be making an announcement within the coming days regarding further cancellations or additions to the Tea at Five performance schedule.  Hartford Stage Artistic Director Michael Wilson states, “We truly regret the upset and inconvenience this has caused, especially to our valued subscribers.  We are going to explore any avenue possible for making this up to everyone who has had a performance cancelled.  Obviously, our first concern is to make sure that Kate takes good care of herself so that she can continue her brilliant performance in Tea at Five.”

Tea at Five, a one woman play on the life of Hartford native and Hollywood legend Katharine Hepburn is     sold out.   For more information please call the Hartford Stage Box Office at (860) 527-5151.  Hartford Stage is located at 50 Church Street, Hartford, CT 06103.  Further announcements will be posted as they develop at or
