The Stella Adler Studio of Acting presented the fifth annual Stella by Starlight fundraising gala on Monday, October 19, 2009 at the home of Erica and Antonio “L.A.” Reid. Whoopi Goldberg, Elaine Stritch, Suzanne Shank, Debra Wasser and Bennett Zier were honored at the event. Ruby Dee, Muriel Siebert, Kate Mulgrew and James Gandolfini presented the awards. Stella by Starlight raised valuable funds for the Studio in New York, which celebrates its 60th Anniversary in 2009, and its Outreach Division, providing free training to low-income New York City youth. As many of you know, Kate Mulgrew studied with Stella Adler, and considered her a mentor and a friend. Kate is now actively involved with the Stella Adler Studio of Acting – as a board member and a fund raiser.

The Stella Adler Corporate Award for outstanding commitment and contributions to the betterment of community was presented to Bennett Zier.

Kate Mulgrew & Debra Wasser The Harold Clurman Spirit Award for courageous contribution to the culture of the City of New York and beyond was presented to Debra Wasser.
