The final play of the year, "The Lion in Winter", was performed on May 11, 12 and 13, 1972 in the Walhert auditorium. The comedy, written by James Goldman, was the story of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Katherine Mulgrew), his wife, and their three sons.

Kate finished her high school requirements during the summer of 1972 and only her name appears in the 1973 Wahlert High School Yearbook. In the back of the yearbook under Class of 1973 with a subheading "Members of the class who graduated in other ceremonies" you find: "Katherine Mulgrew ..with honors" along with other classmates who graduated during the summer.
